2nd RFP Announced for Vermont Diesel Emissions Reduction Financial Assistance Program

The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has developed the Vermont Diesel Emissions Reduction Financial Assistance Program, which provides technical assistance and incentive funding for projects that reduce emissions from diesel-powered vehicles, engines, and nonroad equipment.

$30,078 is currently available in the 2022 Vermont Diesel Emissions Reduction Financial Assistance Program. The DEC are issuing a second Request for Proposals to award remaining funding available from the proposal request issued in October 2022.

Funding is available for:

  • Replacement of diesel-powered heavy-duty vehicles, engines, and nonroad equipment with ⚡electric⚡ (battery, grid, or fuel cell), alternative fuel, or newer diesel options,
  • Retrofitting with emission control technologies,
  • Engine replacements,
  • Clean alternative fuel conversions,
  • Installation of idle reduction technologies,
  • Aerodynamic technologies and low rolling resistance tires, and
  • Electrified parking spaces for ❄transport refrigeration units❄ and truck stop electrification projects.

Within the last 24 months, the financial assistance program has awarded:

  • $134,000 to an ice cream company to replace a 2003 Kalmar yard truck with a 2023 OrangeEV electric yard truck, resulting in tailpipe emission reductions of 100% annually.
  • $85,000 to a town for the replacement of a 2009 International Class 8 plow truck with a 2022 Ford Class 6 plow truck and a 2000 Cat wheel loader with a 2022 Case wheel loader, resulting in diesel emissions reductions of 83% annually.
  • $54,000 to a town for the replacement of a 1999 Cat wheel loader with a 2022 John Deere wheel loader, resulting in diesel emissions reductions of 98% annually.
  • $51,000 to a bulk pellet delivery company to replace a 2006 Freightliner Class 7 truck with a 2023 Freightliner Class 7 truck, resulting in diesel emission reductions of 77% annually.
  • $42,000 to a propane delivery company for the replacement of a 2003 Freightliner Class 8 truck with a 2023 International Class 8 truck, resulting in diesel emissions reductions of 76% annually.
  • $39,000 to a town to replace a 1998 John Deere backhoe loader with a 2023 John Deere backhoe loader, resulting in diesel emission reductions of 98% annually.
  • $39,000 to a beverage delivery company to replace a 2001 International Class 7 truck with a 2023 Freightliner Class 7 truck, resulting in diesel emissions reductions of 93% annually.
  • $39,000 to a heating oil delivery company for the replacement of a 2000 Freightliner Class 7 truck with a 2021 Freightliner Class 7 truck, resulting in diesel emissions reductions of 92% annually.
  • $38,000 to a cargo transport company for the replacement of a 2007 International Class 8 truck tractor with a 2022 Peterbilt Class 8 truck tractor, resulting in diesel emissions reductions of 78% annually.
  • $29,000 to a beverage delivery company to replace a 2003 International Class 7 truck with a 2023 Freightliner Class 6 truck, resulting in diesel emissions reductions of 92% annually. 

The DEC has posted a Request for Proposals and is now accepting applications for this financial assistance opportunity. The application deadline is Friday, March 10, 2023.
